My Keloid Story - Transparent

My Keloid Story

I first got my keloid when I scratched my chicken pocks. My mother also received some, but she was well into her adult years. Thus avoiding the nightmare of being teased by children. I remember I was in 4th grade, and everyone thought it was a mole. The Austin powers movie had just come out also, to my disdain.

Austin Powers Goldmember - Where Austin Powers meets someone who has a mole on his face and can't contain himself to point it out constantly. "Moley Moley" was my "nickname".

Looking back at it, these kids sucked, and this was ridiculous. I often see myself now, being sharper, wittier, and edgier than was as a kid, and wonder why I didn't "clap back".

It was too much, everyone joined in on the teasing, even the one person I called my friend. An excuse or lie that I told everyone, was that I got shot.

Fun fact: Scars are looked at differently when you tell people they come from being hurt/ damaged, as opposed to being a natural deformity. (I googled that when I was 18)

Fast forward, the keloid made me the virtually mute, I was the kid in class that did not talk for years. I saw no point. When I did talk, I stuttered, because I was not used to talking.

Do you see the domino effect?

I remember one day, I went into the bathroom and held a sharp pair of kitchen scissors over my keloid. Very close to cutting it off clean

This would have caused irreversible damage & nonstop bleeding. It could have also resulted in a keloid that was twice as big, appearing.

I didn't do it. But I will never forget that day!

Highschool

Fast forward to high school - a combination of pressure, tea tree oil, 1 cortisone shot (that slightly reduced it, and constant silicone for years, made the keloid near untraceable. This process took years, and even though it was gone, the psychological effects stayed.

The quiet kid, who never talked, still did not talk!

Long story short - I invested in a few self-help books, that fixed that mess.

The one that helped the most was - The Game, by Neil Strauss

We won't talk about this book, as that's not the focus. My biggest takeaway from this book was "fake it until you make it". That's exactly what I did. Success

College

College is where I was afflicted by two keloids, between the time I enrolled, up until graduation.

One in the middle of my forehead, right before move-in day & one on my earlobe.

The one on my forehead came from constantly re-popping a pimple. Scratching it off each time it started to heal. It kept coming back, I didn't notice that it was forming into a keloid.

It became rigid and hard. Flashbacks to middle school caused me to start doing some very deep research. Why was this happening, I wondered.

Techniques

The first technique was pressure. - It did not work, it just made the keloid wider.

The next technique was - Crushed Asprin + Lemon Juice - This one worked, the keloid was being burned by the crushed aspirin. But it was a very slow process. Layer after layer came off of the keloid, it was peeling like an onion, and getting hard. I was impatient and used scissors to cut off the final few pieces of the keloid.    BIG MISTAKE.

The keloid was gone for a week. It came back, the exact same size that it was, at the start of the crushed aspirin process.

I used visors to cover my forehead the entire first semester of college. I was so pissed.

Then I discovered the ACV or apple cider vinegar technique. With my creativity, I used ACV plus painters tape, a durag to hold the ACV on my head, and a rock to create the pressure, under the tape.

The keloid was gone within a month.

In my next post ill go over how I got rid of my earlobe keloid and things you should know about the psychological effects of having visible keloids. That you might not notice is affecting you.

Covering up a keloid

Keloids are not pretty

You know that feeling, where someone is looking at you.. but they aren't looking at you. They are looking at your keloid. That small or big mark on your body that you stare at for hours on end, because you're trying to figure out where it all went wrong?

That spot, it feels like a laser is beaming directly at your keloid. Why do their eyes keep darting to that one spot!

I knew this feeling all too well, in middle school and in college. But not after that. Because I got rid of it with natural remedies, for under 30 bucks.

But this post isnt about how to get rid of them, I cover that in prior posts. This post is to cover them, while you are getting rid of them. So that the laser beam is a little less hot.

How to cover it up

Makeup. But not just any kind.

You need a concealer. The powder kind. To fill the cracks the keloid may have as its healing. If you are using my process/system.

Your keloid is melting like the Witch of the Wicked West. So lets aid that ugly process.

I used this brand - dabbed it on with a cotton ball

Then used this brand - (dermatologist recommended) to make it look like real skin

This is to cover up that unbelievable healing process! Thus it is an essential key, these also affiliate links, because my goal for this blog is to be as transparent as possible.

Keloids Suck.

How I got rid of my keloid. Fast. (DO NOT GET THE SHOT)

Avoid The Shot
Hi everyone! It's a beautiful Tuesday. I just received a message from a reader, regarding keloids and it really made my day. I'll start to post weekly, if not daily.

They shared with me their story about keloids, and it sounded so much like mine. I felt their pain.

Having a keloid SUCKS. On this blog im avoiding profanity, but hopefully, you get the picture.

The Shot. My Experience

Lets talk about the shot. Yes the cortisone shot that everyone talks about. It does not work, but if it does, its a tease.. I say a tease because it only reduced my keloid slightly the first time, meaning more needed to be received.

"Why would they do this Golden"? Why would doctors give you a shot that only slightly works, when modern medicine is now at the point that it has the power to alter your chemicals to the point where it changes your gender?

Money. Doctors are salesmen. It is better to have a reoccurring client than to have one that shows up and never comes back again. Everyone knows someone who was recommended surgery, a procedure, or even a pill, that they soon come to find out, they don't need.

The Second Shot

The second shot. I was desperate, in college, and my earlobe keloid was growing. I looked up a doctor in Chicago, who had raving reviews. "My keloid is gone" "He lasered my keloid off".

Long story short, I got the shot and some "miracle" cream. They both did not work. The shot made my keloid bigger, just in time for a national meeting with my fraternity. Great. The pictures were taken of me still give me nightmares lol.

But then I got angry.. Doctors are supposed to help right? Yes, they do, but this one didn't.

That's when I discovered the little blue bottle that's actually sitting next to me. It's like apple cider vinegar, but it works faster to dissolve keloids. It's dangerous TBH. Because if it gets on your skin, it gives it a chemical burn, immediately.

What is this little blue bottle you ask? TCA 20% - Acid. The kind that dermatologists use. It literally says "for professional use only"

But desperate times called for desperate measures...

More about this in my next post. As I want to have the time to thoroughly go over HOW TO SAFELY USE TCA 20%. Acid.

Just a post from my journey. I realized today how different my life is now that I don't have a keloid.

Today I reflected back on my life and realized how much of an impact having a keloid had on it. I had low self-esteem & was teased by classmates at a very young age. As a kid, I blamed much of my awkward social situations on this one keloid. Yes, it was the cause, but really it was just the result of avoiding so many social situations that I did not know how to operate within them. This keloid was the result of scratching chicken pocks that I had when I was around 7. Yep, that thing that everyone tells you not to do, had a reason, and also a big impact on my life.

After getting rid of it, using a combination of acid ( That's safe for skin). Aloe vera (to repair the damaged skin), chip clips (for pressure), and that shaving tool used to stop the bleeding when you cut yourself shaving. (to stop the bleeding).

The above method is for earlobe keloids.

I found this combination by scouring the internet for over a decade. As I have had many keloids in my life. One on my ear lobe, one on my forehead, and one on the side of my head, in front of my ear (the hardest one to reduce).

Doctors of course, always touted that a steroid injection is the best course of action, but honestly, that made one of my keloids worse.

More later! Stay Tuned.
